Education Kindergarten to Secondary (EDKS)

EDKS-4611: Content and Methods for Teaching Art at the PK through Eighth Grade Level (3 hours)

This course develops the pre-service teacher’s understanding of visual arts content and the methodology necessary to teach PK-8th grade. Field experience required. Fee: Required. Prerequisite: C or higher in ART-1210 and ART-1310, and Acceptance into Teacher Candidacy. Offered: Spring.

EDKS-4613: Content and Methods for Teaching World Languages at the PK-Elementary Level (3 hours)

This course develops the pre-service teacher’s understanding of world languages content and the methodology necessary to teach PK through elementary school students. Cross-Listed: FOL-4613. Field Experience: 12 hours in the Elementary setting. Fee: None. Prerequisite: Acceptance to Teacher Candidacy. Special permission required for students not enrolled in the CUC PK-12 Spanish Education Program. Offered: Spring.

EDKS-4850: Assessment and Management for PK-12 Classrooms (3 hours)

Foundations, planning and implementation of effective classroom assessment to improve instruction and evaluate student learning and foundations for planning and implementing a positive environment that is safe, healthy, motivating and engaging for every student. Prerequisite: Acceptance into Teacher Candidacy. Offered: Spring.

EDKS-4905: Content and Methods for Teaching Physical Education at the Elementary Level (3 hours)

This course examines learning theories, instructional and teaching strategies and assessment techniques for directing motor learning experiences. This course develops the pre-service teacher to teach elementary school students in Physical Education. Field Experience: Required. Prerequisite: C or higher in PES-4625, PES-4635 and PES-4640, and Acceptance into Teacher Candidacy. Offered: Spring.

EDKS-4910: Special Topics: Education Kindergarten to Secondary (3 hours)

An in-depth study of a topic relevant to a current topic in the discipline or a topic of interest that is not addressed in other departmental courses. The course may be repeated for credit so long as the topic is different.

EDKS-4940: Student Teaching Internship: PK-12 Music Education (15 hours)

Supervised teaching experience in a music education setting for sixteen weeks on a full-day basis. The internship includes planning, instruction, and reflective evaluation. Open only to students who have been admitted to the Student Teaching Internship. Pass/Fail only. Pre-Requisite: Acceptance to the Internship Professional Semester. Co-requisite: EDUC-4985 Student Teaching Seminar.

EDKS-4944: Student Teaching Internship: PK-12 World Language Education (15 hours)

Supervised teaching experience in a world language classroom for sixteen weeks on a full-day basis. The internship includes planning, instruction, and reflective evaluation. Open only to students who have been admitted to the Student Teaching Internship. Pass/Fail only. Pre-Requisite: Acceptance to the Internship Professional Semester. Co-requisite: EDUC-4985 Student Teaching Seminar.
